Sailing Representative 2018

The role of a Sailing Representative 
The role of the Topdeck Sailing Representatives is to be the face of Topdeck on our sailing trips in various destinations around Europe, including Croatia, and Turkey. The Topdeck representative will be responsible for providing passengers with local and practical knowledge about the area in which they are sailing and help facilitate the socialisation and overall experience of the group.  The Sailing Representative will need to:

  • communicate on a daily basis with the ship’s crew and clients about the day’s activities;
  • manage expenses;
  • book and confirm any excursions, restaurant meals etc. that the clients may require;
  • provide knowledgeable and informative commentaries about local areas, including some cities and sights visited;
  • stimulate the social aspect of the trip, for example by organising group games and activities;
  • be aware of client’s safety at all times; 
  • deal with emergency situations that may arise;
  • complete a balanced set of accounts at the end of each trip;
  • liaise with clients and the ship’s crew diplomatically and professionally; and
  • work as a team with the other Sailing Representatives.

What we look for in our Sailing Reps
We want sailing reps who:

  • have a passion about showing our guests the destinations we sail to;
  • have excellent communication skills;
  • are organized, with the ability to remain flexible where required;
  • can work independently and remain self-motivated;
  • can solve problems logically and creatively; and 
  • demonstrate professionalism at all times.  

Requirements for the Sailing Rep
In addition to the above, our Sailing Representatives should be/have:

  • able to work in Europe (please see requirements below); 
  • confidence in talking about history and culture in front of large groups of people;
  • excellent level of swimming; and
  • well-travelled (previous travel in Europe is essential). 

To work in Turkey you must be in possession of an EU passport (please note a UK passport is not eligible).  

You can apply to work in Croatia without an EU or UK passport as you are eligible to obtain a boat registration.  

The following are not requirements, but are beneficial to your application:

  • experience in leading groups;
  • experience in talking in front of groups of people; and
  • experience working on boats.
